100. Anna Turrisi Colonna

Sister of poet Giuseppina Turrisi Colonna and politician Nicolò Turrisi Colonna, Anna Turrisi Colonna, poet and painter, studied drawing with Agatino Sozzi, Patania e Lo Forte. At age 16, she wrote “Le remembrance” (Memories). She later wrote religious poems like “Inno a San Michele” and “Inno a San Pietro”, and political pieces like “Il sepolcro di Corrodino” (The tomb of Corroding) and “La granduchessa Olga” -her inspiration the British poet Byron. As a painter, she realized religious works and portrayed many areas surrounding Palermo.
