Politician born in Palermo, Stabile was an uncompromising “antiborbonico”. General secretary of the Committee that promoted the insurrection of Palermo in January 1848 and gave rise to the so-called “Spring of peoples”.
Stabile was Minister of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Commerce of the Kingdom of Sicily during the Sicilian revolution of 1848 and in 1849 headed the department of war. Exiled with the return of the Bourbons, he was the author of heated propaganda. He returned to Sicily after Garibaldi’s expedition of the Thousand. During the dictatorship of Garibaldi in Sicily, Stabile was named vice president of the “extraordinary Council of State”. He was mayor of Palermo from 1862 to his death.
