Stage and film actor, Grasso performed in 82 films between 1910 and 1955. Born in Catania into a family of stage performers, Grasso Jr. was cousin of Giovanni Grasso (1873-1030), a respected stage actor specialized in the Sicilian language repertoire. To distinguish himself from his cousin, he assumed the stage name “Giovanni Grasso Junior”. Grasso started his film career in 1932 with the Comedy “La Telefonista”: the first of more than 60 subsequent movies, often acting together with his wife, Virginia Balestrieri.
